I’ve always been a big fan of Bare Escentuals and their mineral makeup which includes bare Minerals foundation, Mineral Veil, FaceColor, and EyeColor among other cosmetics. Having said this, Bare Escentuals (or Bare Essentials) is not your only option for ESCA makeup.
Guthy-Renker has recently started a new infomercial campaign for a new mineral makeup brand called Sheer Cover. Sheer Cover mineral makeup was created by Leeza Gibbons, a former co-host of Entertainment Tonight and host of Extra. For those of you who do not know about Guthy-Renker, they are a corporation that was founded in 1988 known for advertising and selling a variety of products through infomercials. They have campaigned for other beauty and skincare brand products such as Proactiv and Principal Secret.
Sheer Cover Mineral Makeup
Sheer Cover offers products very similar to Bare Escentuals’ bare Minerals ESCA makeup line. So similar, in fact, that they seem to be cloning the product line of Bare Escentuals with some minor feature changes. One such example is the Sheer Cover Mineral Foundation SPF 15. This ESCA makeup cosmetic product is very similar to Bare Escentual’s bare Minerals Foundation with SPF 15. The similarities are as follows:
- 100% pure mineral powder formula made through ESCA technology
- SPF 15 for added protection from harmful rays the sun emits
- Advertised as light and weightless makeup
To one up the competition, Sheer Cover has added these extra healthful benefits to their mineral makeup foundation:
- The mineral foundation is combined with the mineral finishing powder as one product
- Contains Green Rooibos Tea, a supposed age-defying agent
The combined mineral finishing powder may be appealing as it takes the time and extra [necessary] item out of the equation, but is it enough to win Bare Escentuals consumer fanatics over?
Green Rooibos Tea is believed to have a higher level of concentration of many nutrients in comparison to regular Rooibos tea. These nutrients include vital antioxidants, flavanoids, and minerals. Although the bare Minerals foundation is not advertised to contain Green Rooibos Tea, it does contain antioxidants deriving from another kind of source.
bareMinerals or Sheer Cover Mineral Foundation?
Is this a battle of the ESCA makeup brands? There really should be no surprise of the similarities as all natural mineral makeup contain much of the same ingredients…100% natural minerals. There are many factors that people take into consideration when making a makeup or cosmetic product choice.
One consideration is the image of the brands. Which makeup brand is more established and thus, holds more authority in this specific area of expertise? Authoritative and established cosmetic companies usually do have the upper hand on upcoming ones because they have been in business for a longer period of time. Because they have been around for a while, they are more trusted. As with any business, trust is essential and takes time to build.
Both Sheer Cover and Bare Escentuals have advertised their ESCA makeup products via infomercials. This is a great advertising method as this form of media can be spread worldwide. The problem with it is that people may not be so willing to listen through a 30 minute ad when changing the channel is as easy as the touch of the remote control button. Also, many products that have become known through this stream of media have proven to be scams. Sifting through the hype and nonfactual stuff is an annoyance and not something many would like to do in their spare time.
Well, ultimately, the choice is up to you. I haven’t yet tried Sheer Cover. I have been a hard core fan of bare Minerals ESCA makeup for a while. Once I get a chance to use Sheer Cover, I’ll be sure to review here at Minimal Makeup.
